FAIRFAX EARNS THE SQUADRON OF MERIT
The Fairfax Composite Squadron
(Fairfax, VA) earned the National Capital Wing’s Squadron of Merit award for
the third consecutive year and was awarded a trophy at the Wing Banquet on
March 14, 2009. The award recognizes the squadron's meritorious cadet
programs performance throughout 2008 based on squadron strength, squadron
growth rate, cadet achievement, cadet encampment attendance, and cadet
orientation flight participation. During the history of the squadron it has
earned the Squadron of Merit on at least five occasions, in 1995, 2004,
2007, 2008 & now 2009.
The Squadron of Merit is an annual
award established to recognize the top cadet or composite squadron in each
wing. The same criteria used to select the Squadron of Distinction is used
to determine Squadrons of Merit. Each squadron selected will receive a
distinctive certificate and streamer. The CAP Squadron of Distinction
Program is an annual program established to recognize the top CAP composite
or cadet squadron regionally and nationally for distinctive accomplishments
in the cadet program during the preceding calendar year. National
Headquarters Cadet Programs will determine a Squadron of Distinction for
each of the eight CAP regions. One of these eight squadrons will then be
selected to receive recognition at the annual National Board meeting and
presented a $500 honorarium sponsored by the family of the late Brigadier
General F. Ward Reilly, CAP. All Squadrons of Distinction will receive a
distinctive certificate and streamer.
